The Erau is a traditional festival held each year in September, in the city of Tenggarong in Indonesia .

Tenggarong is located on the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan Province . It was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Kutai .

During the festival are presented shows and exhibitions presenting the Malay and dayak cultures .

Erau celebrates the foundation of Tenggarong. The highlight of the festival is the parade in which an effigy dragon is carried along the Mahakam and drifting on the water. This dragon is supposed to chase evil for the next year.
