The New York Agreement is a document negotiated by the United States on behalf of the Indonesian Government in 1962 for the transfer of sovereignty from Western New Guinea (then Dutch New Guinea ) to Indonesia. This agreement was prepared by the United States in secret and without the consent of the peoples of Western New Guinea, after the Indonesian invasion began in December 1961 and after the Soviet navy was ordered to enter. war alongside Indonesia the1 .
