Sarinah is a store of Indonesia , located Jalan MH Thamrin 11, in the neighborhood of Menteng in Jakarta . The store was built between 1963 and 1967. It was inaugurated in 1967 by President Soekarno .
Sarinah is the first department store in Indonesia. 74 meters high, with fifteen levels, it is the first high-rise construction in Indonesia. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the French Embassy in Indonesia .
In the basement is a supermarket, food court , ground floor Starbucks , McDonald’s and a hairdresser. The rest of the level and the upper floors are occupied by the Sarinah department store.
Sarinah was the name of the nurse of Soekarno. Soekarno wanted a shopping center that could meet the needs of the population with cheap but quality products. Since the development of the capital, and the appearance of huge shopping centers on Thamrin Avenue ( Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia in particular), Sarinah has become much less busy and is now mainly used by wealthy students and diplomats as a place of relaxation.
