The second expedition to Sumatra is a punitive expedition led by the United States Navy in 1838 against the inhabitants of the island of Sumatra. After the crew of the American merchant ship Eclipse was massacred by Malay warriors or pirates, an expedition led by two American warships disarmed a force that defeated the Malays in two operations.
